Lakay se lakay — home is home, no matter how far you travel from it. For the Haitian and Caribbean families building a life in Evansville, Indiana, that feeling of home often starts in the kitchen — with the smell of griot frying, a pot of diri kole simmering, or bread fresh enough to tear apart with your hands. The problem is, those ingredients aren’t always easy to find in a new city. That’s exactly why Good Meus exists.
A Piece of Home, Right Here in Evansville
We know what it’s like to search three stores and still come up short looking for the right cut of meat or the right kind of bread for your table. So we built our shelves the way a Haitian or Caribbean auntie would build her own pantry — full of the staples that actually matter.
The Meats You Grew Up On
A real Haitian pot starts with the right protein. We carry:
- Goat meat (vyann kabrit) — essential for a proper tabak or griot night
- Turkey neck meat (kou kodenn) — perfect slow-cooked in sauce
- Cow foot meat (pye bèf) — for that rich, gelatinous soup joumou base
- Cow meat (vyann bèf)
- Pork foot meat (pye kochon)
- Oxtail meat (ke bèf) — a Sunday dinner favorite across the Caribbean

Bread That Tastes Like Home
You can’t have a real Haitian breakfast without good bread. We stock Haitian bread — pen rale, pen fre in both regular and long form, along with Haitian comparet, the sweet, dense spiced bread that shows up at every gathering worth remembering.
Pantry Staples That Round Out the Pot
No Caribbean kitchen is complete without a good bag of pigeon peas. We carry green pigeon peas in the 3 lb bag for the big family pot, or the smaller 397 g size for a quicker weeknight meal. Pair those with something from our spices, seasonings, and pantry staples collection and your diri kole ak pwa is basically halfway done before you’ve even turned on the stove. For beans of every kind, check the beans category too.

More Than a Grocery Store
We’re located at 2420 Washington Ave, and we’re open Monday through Saturday to serve the community. Whether you’re Haitian, Jamaican, Dominican, or just love good Caribbean cooking, we built this place so you don’t have to drive across three counties to find the ingredients that make your food taste right.
Sitèl ki dous se sitèl ki gen anpil dlo — the sweetest fruit is the one with the most water in it, as the old saying goes. Good food takes the right ingredients, and good ingredients start here. Explore our full shop, or reach out to us if you’re looking for something specific — if we don’t have it, we’ll do our best to help you find it.
